Steps to Certification in HFMA

  1) Become an HFMA member.   

        
  

  2) Successfully complete 4 hour 
core exam.

  

  

        

3) Successfully complete one of
   four 2-hour specialty exams: 

      *  Financial Management of Physician Practices; 
    *
Accounting & Finance;   

   
* Patient Financial Services;  *  Managed Care
  
            

  4) Certification Requirements:  

     a) 60 semester hours of college;
    
b) 2 years of regular membership in HFMA;
    
c) 2 years of professional experience in
         healthcare or finance;

     d) 40 Founder's Award points earned over a
         3 year period; 
    
e) Character references.

 

 


 

   

            

  

 5) Become an HFMA certified member. 
Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP)

  
          
  Fellowship  Requirements: 
   a) Achieve certified (CHFP) status in HFMA;
   
b) References from an HFMA Fellow and a   
        selected chapter officer;

     c) Earn 200 Points on the following scheduled: 
        * One point for each Founder's Award point
           earned, 40 points for each ADDITIONAL
           specialty certification earned; 
       
* Education points based on highest level of
           education achieved (50 points for
           Bachelors, 75 points for Master, 100 points
           for PhD)
  
    

 

      

6) Achieve Fellowship Status
Fellow, Healthcare Financial Management Association
